Sylvia Gladys Vest was a daughter of Leonard Haliburton Vest and wife Emma Stella Gadd. Sylvia, 8, and her sister Josephine, 1, died at home within a few hours of each other of diphtheria. Their mother's family Bible records the date as 02 Sept 1921 for both girls. However, their sister Nina remembered Sylvia dying at 9 p.m. and the Josephine dying at 9 a.m. the next morning. There is a baby picture of Sylvia and a photo with her older siblings. The only photo of Josephine is a posthumous picture of the girls together in a single coffin.
