At age 22, Sewell, as required, signs-up for the WWI draft. He is Single, Tall and of Slender build ~ he has Brown hair, Hazel eyes. He appears to be physically fit and is employed by L A Bishop as a Farm-hand.The Bishop Farm is located near Sewell's hometown of Bayou La Batre in Mobile County.
Sewell married Harriett "Hattie" Willett, who relocated to Bayou La Batre with her family, as a child. She is the dau of of Elmer Ellsworth Willett and Sarah Melissa Pincombe originally of Michigan.
Sewell, a kindly man, came to be known as "Papa" Sewell; He and Hattie were the proud parents of (7) children,(3) sons and (4) daughters; later blessed with a legacy of grandchildren.
The couple are laid to rest in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre. Their gravesites are memorialized with handsome headstones, provided by their children.
