Mr. William Rae "W.R. Billy" Barnes, Sr.:
a native and lifelong resident of Bayou La Batre died Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at his home. Mr. Barnes was a current City Council Member for the Town of Bayou La Batre. He was the owner operator of Barnes Net Shop and a veteran of the US Navy serving in Korea. Mr. Barnes was a boat captain on a supply boat for the petroleum industry. He was very active in local charity work, putting on numerous benefits for many worthy causes. He was preceded in death by his son, William R. Barnes, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mrs. Janet Barnes of Bayou La Batre; two sons, Henry (Marcia) Barnes of Bayou La Batre and C. Clayton Barnes of Bayou La Batre; one daughter, Charlotte (John) Bryant of Mobile; one sister, Juanita (Nathaniel) Zirlott of Fowl River; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 14, 2000 at 10AM from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors Thursday at the funeral home from 5-8PM. Interment will take place in Oddfellow Cemetery with full military by VFW Post 49 Honor Guard Unit. Arrangements by SERENITY FUNERAL HOME, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd, Mobile, AL

Funeral services were held Friday, April 14, 2000 at 10:0 0 A.M. from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Madden and Rev. Tim Peek officiating. The Eulogy was delivered by Mr. Bill Menton. Honorary pallbearers were the Mayor and Council Members for the town of Bayou La Batre, Millard McRoy, Johnny Rogers, John Bryant, Saul Hebert, Nathan Hebert, Grady Seaman, Noah Seaman, Bobbie Barber, Cleveland Rodriguez, Elmo Horton, Buck Jones, Bobby Cain and Donnie Fruison. Active pallbearers were Johnny Esfeller, Leslie McRoy, Kevin Bryant, Nathan Zirlott, Nathan Hebert, Kevin E. Beckham, Jimmy Godwin and Jeremie Zirlott. Interment with full military honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard Unit was in Oddfellows Cemetery, Bayou La Batre. Arrangements by SERENITY FUNERAL HOME, 8691 Old Pascagoula Rd, Mobile, AL.
