Brian Keith Mansel, 16, of Oak Ridge, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Brian was born July 2, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nev., the son of Wendell Brian Mansel and Karen Dell Taff Mansel of Oak Ridge.

He was a junior at Oak Ridge High School and a member of the Spanish Club, the VolunTEENS and his family said he was to have started membership in the Physics Club.

He was also a member of the ORHS swim team, the Anderson County Aquatic Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Brian had been a paper carrier for The Oak Ridger for over six years. He also worked as a lifeguard at the Emory Valley Pool and had been certified through the city of Oak Ridge.

He enjoyed golf, drawing and art, and had just begun an interest in auto mechanics.

Brian was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the church's Christian Youth Group.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Ethan James Mansel, an eighth grade student at Jefferson Middle School; his maternal grandparents, Douglas M. and Loma M. Taff of Oak Ridge; his paternal grandmother, W. Dean Mansel of Pasadena, Texas; his aunt, Charlene G. Stephens and her husband, James, of LaPorte, Texas; and by 10 cousins.

The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve McDonald officiating.Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at Weatherford Mortuary.
