Philena "Nellie" Kendall, was born one year to the day before her adopted Oregon became a state. Her parents were Jackson Joseph Kendall and Harriet Arabella Chipman. Nellie's husband was a famous Portlander in the 1890s. He was murdered in San Francisco in 1907. They had no children, but Nellie did help raise her niece Harriet Lynch, the daughter of her sister Mate. Nellie remarried a man named Daniel Llewellyn late in life. The home she shared with Oscar still stands on 54th & Woodstock in Portland.
