He was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Vallejo, Calif., the son of William Henry and Estelle (Frabey) Merryfield. He had lived in the Olathe area since 1950, moving here from Pittsburg, Kan. He grew up in Mount Hope, Kan.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the First Christian Church, Olathe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons: John Richard Merryfield (1973), St. Lawrence Burroughs (1985) and Mitchell Evans Burroughs, Lansing, Ks.; one daughter: Elizabeth Carroll Burroughs (1958), and one sister; Anne Elizabeth Moore.
Survivors include his wife: Anna M. Merryfield, of the home; three sons: Donald Lee Merryfield, Olathe; William Henry Merryfield, Kansas City, Kan., and Lance Coleman Burroughs, Parker, Kan., one daughter: Judy Merryfield, Olathe; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services are to be at 10 a.m. Oct. 4, at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
