Police officer. He had been a patrolman with the Plainville Police Department for five years when he was shot and killed while pursuing a suspect in a home burglary. He was survived by his wife and young son. Robert Holcomb Way, a street located off Route 10, is named in his honor. He was the first Plainville police officer killed in the line of duty.Robert Holcomb, known as "Bob," was a Police Officer in Plainville, Connecticut. He served 5 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 28. Officer Holcomb was on a Robbery Call to a local residence, when he observed two men run out of the house. Officer Holcomb chased after one of the men, who waited for him in the Woods across the street and ambushed him. He shot Officer Holcomb once in the arm, as the Officer fell, he stood over him and pumped four more shots into his chest. Officer Holcomb died a short time later at New Britain General Hospital. The Suspect was sentenced to Life in Prison. Officer Holcomb was survived by his wife and a three year old son.
