Per the Smith Family Bible - Robert was born July 15th at 5 in the Morning 1754. The names of his father & mother(Robert & Mary) & siblings are also in the bible; Also, his wife & his children.

FHL#17610 - Item 8 -Records of the DAR Toughnioga(sic) Chaper in Cortland Co, NY Records p.107 - ROBERT SMITH - of Marathon, buried Marathon Cem,born England, died Jun 8, 1830, aged 95yrs(sic) - Ballotting (sic) Book p.33 1st NY Reg, Robert Smith, Sergeant, drew 600ac Lot 2, Twp 35 on July 8, 1790 - Military Record - NY Line 1st Reg, Col.Goose Van Schaick, Capt.Andrew Fink, Pvt.Robert Smith. His Wife, Grace Braithwaite is buried beside him, married in 1774, died Nov 19, 1831, aged 80ys. Lineage Book - #33675 (poss 35675 or 35875) and #42224 - Robert Smith served as Sargeant in Capt.Andrew Fink's Co, Col.Goose Van Schaack's Reg of NY Militia. He was born in England, died in Marathon, NY. One of his sons was William Smith who m.Lorenda Badger.

Heman P. Smith was written up in the 1899 Historical Encyclopedia of IL & Knox Co published by Munsell Pub Co - this was said about his Grandparents (p.824) GRANDPARENTS -Robert & Grace - His grandfather, Robert Smith, came with his bride to America from Manchester, ENG in 1776, landing at New York when Washington was organizing his army at White Plains. He immediately enlisted & served in the Rev War 7yrs & 8mos, during part of which time he was a commissioned officer on detailed duty. During the war, his wife lived on the Mohawk Flats at Fort Stanwix. At the close of the war he located at Schenectady, New York, where he resided until 1794. He was a man of strong character and felt the military services he rendered was a duty he owed his adopted country, and they were cheerfully performed. He led essentially a farmer's life. He removed from Schenectady to Cincinnatus, Cortland County, [New York] and settled on the six hundred and forty acres allowed him by the government for his services in the war. That section of New York State was at that time almost a wilderness, and his nearest neighbor was sixteen miles distant. After a residence here of fourteen years, he removed to Marathon, where he spent the remainder of his life. He had a liberal English education, and while residing in Schenectady, was honored by being elected to several municipal offices. He had five sons and three daughters. The sons were John, Isaac, Robert, William and Abraham. NOTE: lived in Schenectady (which was part of Albany Co until 1795) until 1794 when they moved to Cortland county which was part of Onondaga county at that time.
