Marie Junk services held at St. Mary

Services for Marie Ida Junk, 92, of Guttenberg were conducted by Father Rhomberg at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, rural Guttenberg.

Mrs. Junk died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1991 at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Pallbearers for the services were Jim Powers, Charles Berns, John Berns, Bill Junk, Richard Junk and David Junk.

The scripture wake service was held at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Junk was a daughter of Henry and Mathilda (Matt) Fassbinder and was born in rural Guttenberg on Oct. 10, 1898. She was married Feb. 2, 1921 at St. Mary Church to Gregor Junk, who died Sept. 9, 1958. She received her teaching certificate after taking a three-month course at Cedar Falls. She taught at the Walke school, rural Guttenberg, before her marriage.

Surviving are three sons, Gene of Galesburg, Ill., Veryl of Dubuque, and Greg of Ames; three daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Anna Mae) Powers of Farmersburg, Mrs. Leon (Phyllis) Berns of Garnavillo and Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Gustafson of Appleton, Wis.; 35 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandson, three sisters, Frances, Roma and Hilda and two brothers, Henry and Hubert.
