Robert Murphy McKnight, 84, of East Ridge, TN passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009 in a local hospital.

He was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church and the former Builders Sunday School Class. He was a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the post office as a letter carrier after 35 years of service. Mr. McKnight was past master of East Ridge Masonic Lodge #755 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Eleonora McKnight; two daughters, Jean Dowlen and Susan Rymer; two sons, Rev. R. Mark McKnight and wife Judy, and Charles "Chuck" McKnight; three grandchildren, Rebecca Littleton and husband Chad, Elizabeth McKnight and husband Tim Self, and Katy McKnight; two great-grandchildren, Erica Callie Littleton and Robert David Littleton.

Funeral services will be held at 7 PM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Dr. J. David Tabor, the Rev. Randy Martin and the Rev. R. Mark McKnight officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery at 10 AM Tuesday.
