Elmer Clyde Sanders, 91, longtime Seminole resident died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Mr. Sanders was born November 1, 1918 in Oil Center, Oklahoma to William Floyd and Mary Costa (Bowerman) Sanders. Mr. Sanders had lived in Seminole since 1953.
Elmer married Ezel Elizabeth (Dancer) Sanders on August 31, 1943 in Boswell, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on August 20, 2009.
Mr. Sanders was a self-employed carpenter in the Seminole area for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole, where he had served as a deacon and also formerly served as a deacon at the Ideal Street Baptist Church in Seminole. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant. He also was a prisoner of war during the war. Mr. Sanders loved fishing and being able to take his daughter and grandchildren. He loved to watch sports and enjoyed watching them on television.
A daughter Dana Beth Duval of Anchorage, Alaska, one son Nathan Scott Sanders of South Texas, one sister Bethina Bradley of Victoria, Texas, survives Mr. Sanders. Two granddaughters Nalea Zissa of Edmond, Oklahoma and Christina Kolarik of Anchorage, Alaska also survive him, along with four great-grandchildren: Alissa Meadows, Chance Meadows, Adrian Kolarik and Kyliegh Kolarik.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
