The second son of Charles & Tilda Wise Ball, he quit school in the 9th grade, and worked construction at Camp Crowder during the early years of WWII. When he turned 18, he joined the Navy in 1945, and served in the Pacific theater on the USS Baltimore (CA-68). His ship was part of the Occupation Forces in Japan following the Armistice. After his discharg, he drove a grocery truck. He met & married Virginia Bowen in 1949. They divorced in 1953, but remarried in 1955 after he completed his basic training at Ft. Bliss, TX. Assignments in Travis AFB,CA, Korea, Ft. Lewis, WA, Ft. Monmonth, NJ, FRANCE, & Ft Polk, LA were accompanied by the birth of 6 additional children for a total of 8. He was discharged from the Army as a SGT, and worked construction until he retired at age 62. He contracted bone marrow cancer, and died in his home under the care of his wife, an LPN. He is survived by her and eight children, Steven, Randall, Daryl & Greg Ball, Sharon Pennington, Terri Oakes, Vicci West, & Joni Gardner. His brother, Howard Ball also survives.
