E.Cummings served as a Corporal in Co.H,6th Michigan Infantry during the Civil War carrying the regimental colors.In 1863, he was on detached service as a hospital steward.After the war,he graduated from the University of Michigan and then medical school in Illinois.He practiced medicine in Edmore,Michigan and Grand Rapids and was a proud member of Custer Post 5,Grand Army of the Republic.
