Thomas Talmadge "Tom" Brooks, 81, of Lynchburg, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 5, 2009, with his family by his side. Born on February 11, 1928, in Campbell County, he was a son of the late Thomas Lester Brooks and Lula Mae Wooten Brooks. Mr. Brooks served our country on the USS Midway during World War II and completed his education with the Navy. He was an employee of General Electric with 30+ years of service. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Lynchburg where he served the lord faithfully in many ways. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Brooks; and father-in-law, Osby Edgar Marsh. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mildred Ann Marsh Brooks; and four children and spouses, Kay and Butch Mitchell, of Rustburg, Kathy and David Tolley, of Lynchburg, Karen Brooks and friend, Shane Owen, and Kevin and Shirley Brooks, all of Rustburg; mother-in-law, Mary C. Marsh, of Lynchburg; five grandsons; and five greatgrandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Lynchburg. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors by American Legion Post #16. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at the Brooks residence following the service and at other various times. The family suggests that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church. Diuguid Waterlick Chapel on Timberlake Road is assisting the family with arrangements. Published in the Roanoke Times on 12/8/2009
