CIVIL WAR VETERAN. Name: Jacob M. H. Troup
Born Jan 1845 in York County, PA

The son of William & Ellen (McMaster) Troup, in 1860, he was a farmer living with and/or working for the John Baehr family in Manheim Township, York County. In 1850, he had resided with his family in Heidelberg Township, York County. At adulthood, he stood 5' 5" tall and had sandy hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Newcastle County, Delaware, September 21, 1861, overstating his age by three years, as a private with Co. I, 1st Delaware Infantry, federal muster date unknown. He was hospitalized at Continental Hotel U.S. Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, in December 1862 and then assigned detached duty from May until September 1863. He re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer December 18, 1863, at Stevensburg, Virginia (still overstating his age), and detached to duty with the Pioneer Corps the following March until honorably discharged with his company July 12, 1865, at Munson's Hill, Virginia. His last name is also spelled "Troupe" on the roster. He also enlisted with the regular army at Wilmington, Delaware, April 9, 1867, and assigned to Co. G, 31st U.S. Infantry, which became the 22nd U.S. Infantry during a reorganization. He received his honorable discharge April 9, 1870, at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory. I find no evidence of service with the 17th U.S. Infantry.

He married Mary E. ? in 1877 and fathered (possibly an incomplete list) Maggie (b. @1880), William (b. @1886), Lester (b. @1889), and Edna (b. @1892). In 1900, he lived with his family in Harrisburg.
