Albert E. Newsome, 74, of Granite City, died on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Anderson Hospital in Granite City.
Services will be held at noon on Thursday at Irwin Chapel in Granite City, with the Rev. Charles Westbrook officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Irving Cemetery in Irving. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials: Illinois Center for Autism or American Cancer Society.
Mr. Newsome was born on May 9, 1935, in Yorkshire, England, the son of Eric and Eleanor Davidson Newsome. He married Patricia Conner on Sept. 8, 1962, at Calvary Baptist Church in Granite City.
He was a mechanical engineer for Jacobs Engineering in St. Louis until his retirement in 2003. He served in the Army, and he was a strong supporter of the Illinois Center for Autism.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Rachel Newsome of Granite City; son, Eric Newsome and his wife Lisa of Vandalia; and grandchildren, Amanda Newsome of Highland, Troy Newsome of Springfield, Dalton Whitten of Vandalia and Emmalee Newsome of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Newsome.
