Funeral services for J. W. Aytes, Jr., Copperas Cove, Texas will be held Thursday, Aug 11 at 2:39 p.m. in the Reed-Culveer Chapel with full military honors. Burial will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery.
He was born April 10, 1941 in Park Hill to John and Betty Carter Aytes and died Monday Aug. 8, 1988 in Copperas Cove. He attended Tahlequah High School and graduated in 1959. He married Leona Isabel Burchett in Tahlequah and enlisted in the Army on May 12, 1966.
Aytes served in the U.S. Army with two tours of duty in Vietnam, three tours in Germany and duty stations at Ft. Sill; Ft. Riley, Kan; Ft. Hood, Texas; and Ft. Schafter, Hawaii. He retired on June 30, 1988 with 22 years of service with the rank of segeant major. He was a member of Bassmasters of America and also a member of Sergeant Morales Association.
J. W.'s cause of death was from a heart attack.
