Palmer resident JOANNE M. MAKI, 52, died Aug. 25, 2000, at her home of cancer. A funeral was at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Mission, 505 S. Bailey St., Palmer. A visitation preceded the service at Palmer Mortuary Chapel. Interment was in Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Blackburn officiated.
Mrs. Maki was born Sept. 25, 1947, in Berkeley, Calif., to Orval A. and Joy L. (Porterfield) Mallory. She graduated from high school and went on to college for two years. She moved to Alaska in 1978. She worked for Matanuska Electric Association, Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union, both in Palmer, and served as executive officer of the Mat-Su Home Builders Association in Wasilla. She was a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Mission. She was active in Habitat for Humanity. Mrs. Maki enjoyed her pets, family and friends, as well as gardening, camping, travel, fishing and whitewater rafting. According to her family, ''Joanne was a loving mother and wife who always had time to help others. She touched many lives in her work and at play and will be missed by all who knew her.''
Mrs. Maki is survived by her husband, Carl Maki; son, Brendan Keidatz; stepson, Chuck Maki; stepdaughter, Debbie Maki; brother, William Mallory; granddaughter, Keri Michelle Maki; and many aunts, uncles cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Mat-Su, 3051 E. Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Wasilla, AK 99654.
