A. Ernest "Ernie" L. Strand, age 90, of Bay City died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Prescott.
Ernie was born July 29, 1919, in Northfield, Minn., the son of Alfred and Josephine (Holien) Strand. Ernie served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He met and later married Rosalie Strand; together they farmed in the town of Hartland. Ernie later worked for UW-River Falls in the maintenance department, retiring in 1986. He raised black Labs since 1964.
Ernie is survived by his wife Rosalie of Bay City; children, Kathleen Denzer, Kenton Strand, Vicki Anderson and Kyle Strand; 19 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his black Lab, Cyrus; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Vaughn; parents; two brothers, Clayton "Bud" and Luverne; and one sister, Marjorie Hubbard.
Funeral services for Ernie will be at 7 p.m. today at Bethel Covenant Church, Ellsworth. The Rev. Greg Fondell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls. Friends and family are invited to call at the church from 4 p.m. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be Ernie's sons, Kenton Strand and Kyle Strand; and grandsons, Joshua Denzer, Seth Anderson, Cody Anderson, Zach Anderson, Dustin Strand, Logan Strand and Spencer Strand. Honorary pallbearers will be Zane, Evan, Carter and Owen Strand.
Military rites will be provided by Fletcher-Pechacek American Legion Post 121 of River Falls.
