William George Cuberly was the son of William Cuberly (1776 VA - 1833 Scioto, OH). An undated letter written by Ida (Cuberly) Cherry McIntyre states, "Father was the son of a second marriage - his father dying when he was 6 months of age. His father was a carpenter." Guardianship of the child was granted to Simeon Wood, Scioto County on 7 February 1854.

He served as a private, Co. F, 140th Regt. Ohio National Guard Vol. 2 May 1864 - 3 September 1864 and was discharged at Gallipolis, Ohio. A farmer, he was 5'6 1/2" with fair complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. He married Amy Wilson and they had children; Lucy Ruth, Simeon Albert, Charles Ellsworth, Emma Belle, Ida May, Robert Henry, William Frank, and Fredrick Verner Cuberly.
