Charles was the son of Otis Stearns and Sarah Camburn, siblings, Albert Bay, Myrtle. Blond hair, blue eyes. married Lillian Spencer,3-4-1878 in Milan MI. 5 children ,Matie, Ethel, Etta, Ada, Winnifred, they lived with Otis Stearns on his farm in Boon,MI. Matie died about age 4, possibly from birth defects. when Lillian died, the family moved to Deerlodge,TN. Charles married Edith Mason,Jan 7,1894,her father had a newspaper in Sunbright,TN. She had 4 children, Carlton 1894, Sadie Ione 1898,both lived, Edith b 1901 and Florence b 1898 died as babies, Edith died sept 10,1901. Ad in Deer Lodge TN businesses, C.M.Stearns carpenter, builder, and general mechanic. Charles moved to Hoquiam, Wa with Edith's parents, the Masons. the Stearns grandparents raised all the kids, moving to Fairhope, Al . near Uncle Albert, then out west also. Charles was a traveling man, always on the go, he was a fine carpenter, belonged to the I.O.O.F.Lodge in Tn, and Wa. He had a shop in Hoquiam, Wa [Odds and Ends and Sawfilling]where the PO is now, and lived in the back of the shop. He cut the edges of newspapers fancy to line his shelves, always wore a dark suit and tie. Harold remembered playing as a child picking up the sawfilings to throw on the fire for sparklers. Charles had a similar shop on Knoxville Av in Deerlodge, Tn. Charles retired to the Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla, Wa, where he died, he was 85 years old,.... 1900 census Morgan co Tn.
