Joel was a member of Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church and was a retired U.S. Postal worker. He was a corporal in the United States Army in Korea, earning a good conduct medal and the National Defense Service Medal and occupation medal from Germany. He played football for the U.T. National Football champions in 1951 and 1952. Later he played for the United States Army. Joel also worked on the Knoxville police department.
He was preceded in death by parents. Grover and Mary (Metzler) Kinley, son, James Kinley and sister Elinor Moore and brothers, Dalton and Robert Kinley.
Joel is survived by his wife, Nancy (Vann) Kinley of Powell, two daughters and son-in-law, Amye and Jim White and Jennifer Beatty all of Knoxville; two sons and one daughter, Michael Kinley of Washington, D.C. and Scott and Carmel Beatty of Knoxville, two grandchildren, Ashley White and Ian Beatty, two brothers and one sister-in-law Alvin Kinley of Williamsport, Pa and Don and Shirley Kinley of West Virginia and special niece and nephew, Rebecca and Tim Laird.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening August 9, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Sweet officiating. There will be a private family only graveside Friday in Oakridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church or West Baptist Hospice.
