Services Held Tuesday for Lena Rhoades, 90

Mrs. Lena Bell Rhoades passed away Sunday morning in the Gardner Community Medical Center where she had been a patient three weeks. She had been in poor health for several years before entering the hospital following a fracture of the hip.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Coughlin's Chapel. Rev. Gayel Bender officiated. Music was furnished by soloist J. Linn Holtwisk who sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Take My Hand, Precious Lord." He was accompanied by Mrs. Fernleaf Barnett.
Burial was in the family lot in the Wellsville cemetery. Pall bearers were Bill Coffey, Velorus Rhoades, Charles Rhoades, Donald Rhoades, Waverly Winfrey, Douglas Higbie, Harvey Rew, Jr., and Ronald Rhoades.
Lena Belle Barngrover was born September 28, 1875 in Logan County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Martha Jane (Musick) and William Penn Barngrover.
At the age of 5, Lena with her parents moved to a homestead in Harvey County, Kansas, where they resided for a few years, later moving to the Bethel community in Miami County. It was here that she joined and attended the Bethel Baptist Church.
On September 20, 1893, she was married to Waverly Rhoades, Sr., who preceded her in death 6 years ago. Two children, Cuba and Charles, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her seven children, all of Wellsville, Mrs. Faye Coffey, Mrs. Harvey Rew, Mrs. Edwin Higbie, Marion, Fred, Frank, and Waverly Jr., 25 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and one half sister, Mrs. Hazel Wagonor of Kingman, Kan., a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
