John Johnson was known in his community as a great fiddle player. One of his sons played the banjo.

(NOTE: Death Certificate states that he was born in 1862).

(NOTE concerning his son Tom: according to the 1900 US Census, Tom was 7 years old, and younger than Frank and Martha, then in the 1910 Census, Thomas "Tom" Johnson was 15 years old at the time of the census and his only sister Martha Ann "Matt" (Johnson) Lambert was 17 years old. This would put his actual birth year as being about 1894/1895 instead of 1884 as shown on his marker. Only one son, Edgar Frank Johnson, was older than Matt).

(NOTE concerning son Edgar Frank: According to some family members, Edgar Frank Johnson was shot and killed by the Prentiss County Sheriff W.W. Cunningham. The story as I remember hearing it, is that Frank was at some kind of a get-together and a fight broke out. Either the Sheriff was at the event or someone summoned him. When Pa Johnson saw the Sheriff, he told Frank to run, and Frank ran. The Sheriff shouted for him to halt but Frank did not halt. The Sheriff then shot him in the back of the head. It has been said that in his report, the Sheriff stated that he fired a warning shot into the air and it hit a tree limb and ricochetted, hitting Frank by accident. It seems that the get-together was an ice cream social at Piney Grove Church, but I don't know for certain if this this is true). Update: I have been told by a relative that Frank was a deserter from the Army and that was the reason they shot him on the spot.
