Ethel M. Tankersley, 81, of Jacksonville, formerly of New Berlin, died at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born March 27, 1912, in New Berlin, the daughter of Jack and Fanny Mae Weger Behl. She married Ernest D. Tankersley in 1935 in Carrollton. Preceding her in death were her husband; a half brother, Samuel Weger; and a half sister, Betty Hinds.
Mrs. Tankersley was a lifelong member of Island Grove United Methodist Church and a member of Island Grove United Methodist Women. She also was associate member of Centenary Methodist Church in Jacksonville and of its Guild Circle. She had been township clerk for Island Grove Township from 1962 to 1969 and mother's helper around New Berlin and Springfield. She was a patient sitter at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville from 1978 to 1983.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Vera Reynolds of Jacksonville and Mrs. Ivan (Edna) Monroe of Ashland; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three half sisters, Pauline Kean of Springfield, Pearl Cumby of Berlin and Dorothy Flynn of Jacksonville; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
