James Brackin, age 79, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Dec. 12, 2009.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1930, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., to John and Bertha Brackin. Mr. Brackin lived most of his life in Walton County. He was Methodist by faith and a member of the Alaqua Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict and the Vietnam era, serving his country over 26 years in the U.S. Army. He received the Bronze Star and served his first year in Vietnam at Kameron Bay. He was a "handy man," talented at repairing all things. He received his associate's degree from Okaloosa-Walton College in air conditioning. He also was employed at Walton County Convalescent Center as the maintenance supervisor for many years before retiring.
Mr. Brackin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lolie Brackin after 59 years of marriage; two brothers, Donald Brackins Sr. and William Derrel Brackin and sister, Bernice Brackin.
Mr. Brackin is survived by his four daughters, Carol Gruver and husband Gary of Lebanon, Pa., Debbie Jones and husband Mike, Cindy Spence and husband Mike, and Dana Troublefield and husband James, all of DeFuniak Springs; grandchildren, Florence Dressler and husband John, Ben Gruver, Jennifer High, Jay Jones, Micha Everett and husband, Zack, Alvin Spence, Chris Spence and wife Rachael, Amber Caudill and husband Jonathan, Kinnon Troublefield, Kaden Troublefield and Allie Troublefield; five great-grandchildren; one nephew, Donnie Brackins and wife Janice; and two great-nephews, Boss Brackins and Danny Brackin.
