OSGOOD, ALLEN JEMISON BONNOITT, age 75, passed away on June 26, 2003. A native of South Carolina, she was born in Charleston and spent her early years in Columbia. She graduated from the University of S.C., then attended Middlebury College (Vermont) for graduate studies in French. She also obtained an exchange scholarship to Paris during this time, and studied at the Sorbonne for about a year. During the remainder of her life she was a lover of France and the French people. Moving to Birmingham in 1948, Allen devoted much of her energy to the teaching of French in local schools and colleges. She was equally involved over many years in animal welfare efforts in Jefferson and several other counties, and was recognized nationally for her work in spay-neuter programs aimed at the control of unwanted animal populations. A devout Christian, Allen was in recent years a member of St. Bede's Anglican Church. She is survived by her husband, Rollin Osgood, and a son, Davis Osgood, of Tampa, Florida. The family suggest a gift to a favorite charity, in lieu of flowers. A memorial service is planned for eleven o'clock on Tuesday, July 1, at Independent Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Jim Carter (IPC) and Bishop Robert Waggener (St. Bede's) conducting. A gathering of friends in the church parlor will follow.
