Married

Lient. (sic) Ernest L. Achen of the home guards of Chester and Miss Bessie B. Thomas were quietly married last Thursday afternoon at the Methodist parsonage by Rev. Neal Johnson Captain of the Company.

Mr. Achen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Achen of this city and grew to manhood in Alma, after which he was employed in the B. M. Simms drug store in Hastings and for the past two years has been the head of the Achen Drug Co. in Chester where the young couple will make their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Achen spent several days the last of the week in Alma at the home of the formers parents.

The Record joins their many friends wishing for them a long and happy wedded life.

Word has been received by reatives (sic) here of the death of Ernest Achen of Ord, Neb. Death came Sunday following a severe illness with flu. Mr. Achen was a former druggist of Chester.

Ernest Leroy Achen was born October 25, 1889, at Alma, Neb. The early years of his life was spent in and near Alma. In 1911 he completed a course in pharmacy at Creighton college (sic) in Omaha, and since then has devoted his time to that profession. First working in a pharmacy at Superior, and in 1915 buying his own Store in Chester, which he kept until called into service for his country on September 5, 1918, being honorable discharged December 20, 1918.

On December 20, 1917, he was married to Bessie Thomas at Chester. To this union were born six children, Gerald Thomas, who died in infancy, Armona Beth, Loretta Mae, Patricia Ann, Willa Joyce and Earl Dean.

He went to Ord in February 1926, worked at the Wickman pharmacy and the rest of the years at the Sorensen pharmacy.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, having been a charter member of Lodge No. 189 A.F. & A.M., Chester.

He passed away on March 28, 1926 (sic), at Ord, Neb., after a brief illness of influenza and pneumonia. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his devoted wife and children, one brother, J.E. Achen of Republic City, a sister, Mrs. Harry Forbes of Alma, and a host of friends.
