Once again God has spoken in our city in a forceful way, taking from our midst Mrs. A. E. Rogers, who for nearly 19 years was a respected citizen of Salida and was held in high esteem by all who became acquainted with her. Mrs. Anna C. Rogers was born near Cleveland, Ohio, March 1, 1838. With her parents she moved to Illinois, where she married Mr. Alfred E. Rogers at Freeport May 6, 1856. They lived a number of years before coming to Colorado in Iowa and Nebraska. In the month of April 1882 they moved to Red Cliff, remaining until August of the same year. They then came to Salida, where they have lived ever since. On March 18, 1897, her husband preceded her in death. Three children survive them, one son and two daughters. Mrs. Rogers accepted Christ during a series of meetings conducted by Rev. Mr. Rankin in 1888 and became a member of the Presbyterian church soon after. After an illness which covered a period of two months, she fell asleep in Jesus on March 25 at 6 o'clock a. m., aged 63 years and 24 days. The funeral occurred at her home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. L. A. Betcher of the Christian church, who in a few well chosen remarks, spoke words of comfort and consolation.
Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep,
From which none ever wake up to weep.
A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes.
Asleep in Jesus, peaceful rest,
Whose waking is supremely blest;
No fear, no woe shall dim that hour
That manifests the Savior's power.
