Obituary
Gene Anderson, age 87, of 4221 Antigua Rd. SW, Carrollton, O., died early Monday morning, Dec. 14, 2009, in his residence following an illness of nearly two years.
Gene was a dairy farmer for most of his life where along with his brother Don they operated the family farm. He also owned and operated Anderson Construction for more than 25 years.
A first generation American of Swedish descent, he was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Trafford, Pa., and was the son of the late Carl and Anna Andersdotter Anderson. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Karl, Arnold and Doyle Anderson, and a sister, Elvera L. "Vera" Dingler.
He was a World War II era Veteran where he served in Korea as an investigator for the C.I.D. He was a life member of the Carrollton V.F.W. Post #3301, a life member of the Dellroy American Legion Post #475, and a life member of the Carroll County Veterans Club. Gene was a member for 32 years of the Minerva 40 et 8 Voiture #1245, a member of the Carrollton Masonic Lodge #124, and a member of the Dellroy I.O.O.F. Lodge #706. He was a life member of the Carroll County Historical Society, a charter member of the Dellroy Business and Professional Assn., and a charter member of the Dellroy Ruritans. Gene was a member for 68 years and past president of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and a former director of the Carroll County Fair Board. Gene was a member of the Public Employees Retirees Inc. and served on the Ohio State Board of Township Trustees and Clerks, and served as a Monroe Township Trustee for 24 years. Gene was a member of the Dellroy Christ Community Church, served on the Board of Directors of the Dellroy Community Hall, and was a charter member of the Dellroy Community Fire Department who named him Grand Marshal of the 2008 Dellroy Fireman's Parade.
Gene was a skilled woodworker and was very conscientious about restoring and finishing antiques but also enjoyed fishing, particularly with his grandchildren. He was very community-minded and exhibited a good work ethic and always showed dedication to both his work and family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Patterson Anderson, whom he married June 2, 1957; a daughter, Mrs. Marty (Teri) Moreland; a son, Keith Anderson and his special friend, Missy Naylor, and her children, all of Carrollton; three grandchildren, Kourtney Anderson, Megan Moreland, and Kyle Anderson, all of Carrollton; a step-grandson, Frank Gairo of Malvern; and a brother, Don (Idell) Anderson of Carrollton.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, in the Dellroy Christ Community Church with Rev. Ron Silver officiating. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Baxter-Gardner Funeral Home at Sherrodsville where Odd Fellows services will be held at 5:45 p.m. and Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Interment will follow in the Baxter's Ridge Cemetery near New Harrisburg where the Carroll County combined VFW, American Legion and DAV will conduct military graveside services. Following committal a reception will be held in the Dellroy Community Hall. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Dellroy Community Hall, c/o Mrs. Evelyn Jones, 9 N.
