James Wood, 91, Pioneer Waushara Co. Farmer, Dies
Plainfield, Wis.- Funeral services for James William Wood, 91, a pioneer farmer of Waushara county and a resident of this vicinity for more than 80 years, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p. m. from the C. O. Goult funeral home, The Rev. Wendell Bennetts will officiate and burial will be in the Plainfield cemetery.
Mr. Wood died at the home of a daughter in West Plainfield Monday morning at 4 o'clock. He had been ill with heart trouble for about three weeks and had been in poor health for a number of years. He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Nettie Bentley.
Born in Scoharie county, New York, on May 30, 1847, a son of William and Nancy Wood, he came with his family to Waushara county at an early age. He continued to make his home here, operating a farm until advancing age caused him to retire.
He was married to Charity Gustin on April 13, 1872. She died 40 years ago, and two of the couple's five daughters also preceeded their father in death. Other surviving daughters are Mrs. Birdie Henning of Mohall, N. D., and Mrs. Maggie Rice of Kenosha.
