Kokomo-Howard County Republican Newspaper - August 23, 1872:

We regret to announce to our readers the death of our fellow townsman and brother of the bar, Daniel Shewmon, Esq., which occurred at 4 o'clock a.m. of yesterday. He was sick, as we learn, for several weeks and while we supposed he was absent from home, it turns out he was sick. His death will be much regretted by our citizens as Mr. Shewmon, for the length of time he has been among us, had won the esteem of all. Mr. Shewmon had served his country and was severely wounded in the late war of the rebellion and now in the prime of life, he is cut off from among us.
