James Lawrence Smith, the third, was born to Robert and Gloria Forte on April 19, 1962. He departed this lovely world on December 9, 2009.

James attended Irvington Tech where he studied to be an Electrician.

He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, under the guidance of Rev. C.C. Wicks. Later, he joined the Merchant Seaman where he was employed as an electrician.

"Smitty," as he was called, did a lot of traveling. James never gave up and always came out on top. He was a true man and served his duty on this earth. Now it is his time to be promoted to a higher rank and serve as a soldier of the Lord.

His time came on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark, NJ. You couldn't help but love Smitty. His last words to his beloved sister were "I love you and don't worry about me because I am going to be alright."

So let's act out the request of James and not worry about him because he is alright. Whenever you think of him, remember the way he was before he fell ill. Remember him as the person who loved to have a good time and tell you like it is no matter what. Remember him as a fighter who never gave up, but the battle was too much to bear this time around. He would want it that way.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Denise M. Djae.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cynthia Smith; two sons, Lawren and Brandon Smith; beloved parents, Robert and Gloria Forte; sisters, Fernethia Smith, Gloria McLean and Janet Drakeford; grandmother, Fernethia Henry; aunt, Diane Smith; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
