Jirah was a cadet at West point from June 13th 1899 to Sept 5th 1901, in the same class as Gen Douglas McArthur. He left West Point because of failing eyesight, and later entered medical school and received his MD. He practiced in at Ellsworth Kansas, He was in the National guard from Feb 10th 1913 to June 1917, (federal Service of 6 months in there sometime). Capt Med. Sec. O.R.C. 4 /26/1917 to 1/11/1919, (active duty). US army medical Corps 7/1/1920 -2/13/1928. Retirement disability is noted in his records as L.O.D. 1251. He practiced medicine in the 1918 time frame in Hollywood CA. He was assistant County Health officer in Los Angeles CA.

His wife was Lucy McCollum. Her parents are listed as John and Elvira (Blaney) McCollum. It appears she was from IL as that is where her parents are buried.

They had no children.
