James was the son of Sarah Louisa Lusk & George Washington Pennington, and Grandson of Benjamin and Catherine Pennington. His grave marker faces his grandfather Benjamin's home; the only marker in the cemetery to face west.
James Ervin Pennington served in Comany D 26th Alabama Infantry, and lost his lower left leg at the battle of Chancellorsville, VA on May 3 1863.
