Margaret Fennessy Swartz, 89, formerly of Libby, died on May 1, 2004, at Carmichael, Calif.
She was born on June 2, 1914, at Great Falls, to J.F. Fennessy Sr. and Audie M. Foote Fennessy, and came to Libby as a child with her family.
Margaret attended Libby schools and graduated from Libby High School with the Class of 1931.
She attended Marylhurst University in Oregon where she was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon and earned a teaching degree from Washington State University at Pullman.
Margaret taught at Wibaux for a time before marrying Lester J. Swartz in 1939.
A longtime resident of Carmichael, she is remembered for her love of music, playing the piano for holiday programs as school secretary at Garfield Elementary School and as organist for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Les, after 67 years of marriage, and by her sister, Florence Fennessy Zwang.
Survivors are her children, Barbara Ogden, Richard Swartz and Katherine Curtis and her husband Gary; grandchildren Mark Ogden, Michael Ogden, Marcia Ogden, David Curtis and Erin Curtis and great-grandchildren, Colby, John and Brendan; brothers Joseph F. Fennessy Jr. and Dr. Thomas F. Fennessy, both of Libby, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Carmichael and graveside interment services will be a 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the City of Libby Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Hannigan officiating.
Local arrangements are by Nelson & Vial Funeral Home.
