Private First Class Brohen was a member of Company H, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, having enlisted 1 April 1952. He was killed by an enemy artillery round while in a foxhole defending Hills 111 and 126 in the "Boulder City Area", Korea on July 25, 1953. For his leadership and valor, Private First Class Brohen was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Philip lived eighteen years, six months, and sixteen days. His mother was named Mrs. Loretta Brohen, born about 1910 in New Jersey. He had an older brother, name unknown, about eight years older than he.
