Master Sgt. Ira R. "Bud" Hummel, U.S.A.F. Reserve, retired, 78, Bellwood, died Saturday at Altoona Hospital. He was born in Bellwood, a son of Clyde R. and Verna M. (Miller) Hummel. He married Kathryn A. Smith Jan. 1, 1960, in Bellwood. Surviving are his wife; two daughters: LuAnn Miller and fiance, Craig Andros, and Cindy L. Ickes and husband, William J., all Altoona; two grandchildren: Lance Cpl. Alex Miller, at Camp Lejeune, NC, and Brooke Ann Ickes, Altoona; two gr. grandchildren: Kylie Graham and Andrew Snowberger; his twin brother, Leonard R. and wife, Nancy, Hollidaysburg, and brothers Richard D. and wife, Pauline, Altoona and Mickey A. and wife, Joni, Erwin, NC Predeceased by sister, Janet Shriner. Bud was a 1950 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He was a U.S.A.F. veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean conflict. Bud was an associate, along with his father, at Stoudnour Body Shop, Altoona, where he took ownership of the business upon his father's death in 1979. He continued to operate the body shop until he became employed as a full-time technician with the 112th Tactical Control Squadron, Pennsylvania Air National Guard, State College. Bud retired at the rank of master sergeant on May 13, 1991, serving for 37 years. He was a member of the Juniata VFW, Bavarian Aid Society and Cesare Battisti Club, Altoona. Bud was a fisherman and hunter spending time at his camp in Potter County. Former baseball coach for the Martin Oil Co., Bellwood, Little League team. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood.
