Nelson , a 1966 graduate of Alba High School, was retired from the fishing industry. He manufactured oyster knives that were used throughout the coast.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Suzanne Nelson ; and a son, Matthew Nelson , both of Bayou La Batre; a daughter, Amber Nelson of Travis Air Force Base, Calif.; four brothers, Jimmy Nelson , Elisha "Cooter" Nelson Jr., Kent Nelson and Tommy Nelson ; and six sisters, Myrtle Cooper, Rose Conway, Betty Gunnles, Frances Zirlott, Yvonne Cheevers and Avon Lannie, all of Bayou La Batre; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral at Serenity Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery.
