Dora was a pioneer in Illinois, teaching in a one-room school house in Hardin County for several years. She organized the pilot study for hot lunch programs in rural schools in Kaskaskia School, located near Tuscola. She later taught fourth, fifth and sixth grades in Rochelle, Ill., and Oak Park. She finished her teaching career teaching special education in Elmwood Park. Throughout her career, she was loved by her students for her warm and magnetic teaching style.
