ADAMS

The friends and relatives of Mr. Jasper W. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Norman Walker, Mrs. Willie Pearl Strange, mr. and Mrs. C. A. Bowden, Mr. and mrs. Paul L. McKenney, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O. Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lopez, Mr. Leonard Norman Walker, Jr., are invited to attend the funeral of Mr. Jasper W. Adams this Monday afternoon, October 5, 1936, at 3:30 o'clock at Spring Hill. Dr. Luther Bridgers and Dr. S. F. Lowe will officiate. Interment East View Cemetery. H. m. Patterson & Son.

I hope I can remember all the info about Jasper Adams. We do not have a ledger for the Adams family. From the tombstone records, we have Jasper W. Adams and his wife Tally S. Adams and the dates. In doing the research and corrections, I discovered that the tombstone for Jasper was marked 1936. On the card file, it was written 1986. We are correcting that to 1936 on our web site. The Adams had 5 children: Louise Elizabeth, Mesa E., Mary Ethel, Willie Pearl and one unknown deceased child (1900 census). Mary Ethel married Leonard Walker, Willie Pearl married Thomas Strange, who died after 6 years of marriage. Willie eventually remarried to a James Hansen. All of these are buried in the Adams Lot in Block 18.

Lots and Blocks are not marked so sometimes it is a guessing game. However, since Jasper died in 1936, I knew a record book was kept from 1935 to 1943 but it was the burial date and not the death date. When I looked up October 4, 1936 in the record book, I found the listing for Oct 4, Jas W Adams, Block 18, Lot 16, grave 3. (That was really the death date and not the burial date. I found his death certificate that said he died on the 4th and was buried on the 5th in East View Cemetery. Also on the death certificate, his name was written Joseph W. Adams. I am thinking it was hand written Jas W. Adams by the doctor and the typist spelled it out as Joseph.)

It was the same way in the record book. Jas looked like it could be Jos W. Adams. When it was written down on the index card, it was written as James W. Adams. Same Block, lot and grave number. We know it is Jasper and the James W. Adams card will be deleted. What happens now that he was given a Memorial # on Find A Grave?

Also, I eventually found his wife's death certificate, and it was written (or transcribed) Sally Wynn Adams. I also found their marriage certificate that gave her maiden name as Wynn.

I will send a copy of this to Judy Wilson, in case she wants any of this for her memorial of Jasper W. Adams, to link with his daughters. I hope you find the one you are looking for.
