Ray Earl Fuhr passed quietly into the arms of Jesus at 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 12 days.

He was born January 11, 1920 at McKinley, Mo., the sixth child of Robert W. and Ota (Brashears) Fuhr.

His parents; his beloved daughter, Connie; two sisters, Vesta Ross and Clara Rill; and five brothers, Ted, Boyd, Leo, Joe, and Charlie preceded him in death.

Ray served in the United States Army 49 months and was honorably discharged in 1945. He immediately went to work for the John Deere Company and their dealerships, retiring after 40 years of service. Ray also worked at Sears for a while. He was able to enjoy several years working with his son. He was never more content and happy then when he was busy outside.

Ray was a member of High Street Baptist Church and was saved in 1950. Ray served faithfully in the children's department for many years. He had many precious friends, many of whom are already with Jesus.

Ray is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maxine; son, Charles Robert; two brothers, Kyle Fuhr and Bill Fuhr and wife, Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Gladys, Wilma, Edith, and Mae Belle; three grandchildren and their spouses, Carmen and Bill Abney, James and Sarah Harlan, and Jon Harlan; four great grandchildren, Lyssa Abney, Alex Harlan, Evelyn and Hannah Harlan; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial will follow in Kerr Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, in the funeral home. The family would like to thank Oxford Hospice team for their tender and loving care. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions may be made to High Street Baptist Church Mission Fund or to Oxford Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.meadorsfuneralhome.com.
