Mr. Shoaf was born Apr. 24, 1886 in Washington Township, Hamilton County, son of Albert R. and Rachel Mendenhall Shoaf. A lifetime resident of the county, he was a member of the local police department for many years, serving as chief from 1948 to 1952. He retired from the force in 1956.
A member of the Fraternal Order of Police, he also belonged to the Golden Rule Brother and Sisterhood. His wife, Nellie Shoaf died in May of this year.
The deceased is survived by two sons, Albert and William Shoaf, both of Noblesville; two grandchildren, William Albert Shoaf, Noblesville; Cynthia Ann Stage, Quincy, Ill., four great-grandchildren and a brother, Ithiel Shoaf, Tampa, Fla.
