CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND —-— James E. Kaiser, 74, of Cumberland, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at his residence.

Born Nov. 27, 1934, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Earl James and Maida LaNon (Wright) Kaiser. He was also preceded in death by his beloved brother, Robert Walter Kaiser, with whom he has been reunited in Heaven.

Jim was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1953. He entered the United States Marine Corp in 1955. Upon completion of his service to his country, he served a four year apprenticeship program and began his career with PPG Industries as a pipefitter until his retirement.

Jim was an avid outdoor enthusiast who loved fishing, hunting and camping with his family. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served as an usher and greeter, enjoyed his Sunday School Class and was a member of the Good Samaritans. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA, the Fort Hill Rifle Club and was also a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America.

The most important thing that Jim will be remembered for was that he was a loving and devoted husband and father, who provided selflessly for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was loved by everyone who met him and opened his home to all. Jim never met a stranger; his compassion and sense of humor were his hallmarks. He will be greatly missed, but is now with his Savior in Heaven.

Surviving are his wife, Jackileen (Pennel) Kaiser; three daughters, Rebecca Lynn Hadra, of Frostburg, Kathleen Kaiser Stephens and husband Scott, of Bunker Hill, W.Va. and Cynthia Kaiser Thomas and husband Michael, of Cumberland; five grandchildren, Robert Eugene Hadra II, Bethany Lynn Hadra, Benjamin James Hadra, James Peterson Stephens and Sarah Katelynn Thomas; two brothers, Richard Lee Kaiser and wife Roxanne, of Rawlings and Leo "Tyke" Kaiser and wife Kathy, of Oldtown; and one sister, Suzanne M. Kaiser Wolford and husband Donald, of Carpendale, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Regina "Jeanie" Kaiser, of Cumberland, and several generations of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Cornerstone Baptist Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor David G. Hattenfield officiating. Friends will be received one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert Hadra II and Benjamin Hadra and nephews, Donald Wolford Jr., Kevin Kaiser, Michael Wolford, Kyle Kaiser, Mark Kaiser, Richard Kaiser and David Kaiser.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Narayan Saheta, Dr. Sunil Gupta and Dr. Boyd Sprenkle and the superb High Level Care staff at Memorial Campus, that cared so lovingly for Jim the past years. We also want to thank the Hospice Program and nurse Jane for taking such wonderful care of Jim as he left this world and went home to Jesus.
