LeRoy Pointer, 68, Nuckolls County Superintendent of Schools, died Sunday, April 29, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings.
Services were held Wednesday, May 2, at 2 p.m. from the Nelson United Methodist Church. Rev. Clair Kess and Rev. James Hansen officiated. Interment was in the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Klawitter Funeral Home in Nelson was in charge of the arrangements.

LeRoy B. Pointer, one of three children, was born to Uriah and Hettie McGrew Pointer, May 23, 1910, at Draper, South Dakota, and passed away April 29, 1979, at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 6 days.

LeRoy attended Shelby High School. He received his Bachelors Degree in Education at Kearney State College and his Masters Degree in Education Administration at the University of Nebraska.

LeRoy grew up at Shelby, Nebraska, and began teaching in rural school of Polk County at the age of 18. He taught or was administrator at various schools including Curtis, Silver Creek, Cedar Bluffs, Kennard, Huntley, Holstein, Stamford, Minatare, Campbell, Ruskin, Big Springs, Nebraska. He also served as Scottsbluff and Banner County Welfare Director for seven years and has been the Nuckolls County Superintendent of Schools since 1972.

On September 9, 1933, LeRoy was united in marriage to Frances Hess. To this union three daughters were born, Jean, Donna and JoAnn.

At the time of death, LeRoy was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church, where he has been a member since January 14, 1974.

LeRoy was secretary twice for the area I and II County Superintendents, an honorary member for life with the NSEA, Treasurer in 1978 for the Nebraska Association of County Superintendents, also belonging to the Nuckolls County Teachers Assocation and was Past President of the Toastmasters Association, Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

LeRoy was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all his loved ones. He was a hard working man taking great pride in his work and giving a very large part of himself to his field of education. In his 68 years of life he has gained many close and dear friends who will miss him very much. LeRoy was preceded in death by both of his parents, Uriah and Hettie Pointer, one grandson, Ronald Christensen, and one brother, Chlorus Pointer. Those left to mourn his passing from this life are his wife, Frances Pointer of Nelson, three daughters, Jean Christensen and husband, Larry, of Campbell, Nebraska, Donna Granville of Portland, Oregon, and JoAnn Rohmer of Newport News, Virginia, one sister, Mrs. Hortense Hanshew of Anchorage, Alaska, five grandchildren, Mrs. Terri (Charles) Trausch of Holstein, Nebraska, Lori and Peggy Christensen of Campbell, Nebraska, Tycho and Marla Granville of Portland, Oregon, one great granddaughter, Julie Trausch of Holstein, Nebraska, three aunts, Mrs. Ethel Ball of Albin, Wyoming, Mrs. Helen Lucas of Gering, Nebraska, Mrs. Wreatha Andrews of Broomfield, Colorado, nieces and nephews, Chlorus Vaughn and Mary Pointer of Anchorage, Alaska, Mrs. Kenneth (Eleanor) Taylor of Eagle River, Alaska, Marilyn Hess of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Robert and Linda Hess, Ginny, Cindy, Don, and Bobby of Ankeny, Iowa.

Services were held Wednesday, May 2, at 2:00 p.m., from the United Methodist Church in Nelson. The Reverend Clair Kess and Reverend James Hansen officiated and pallbearers were LaVeryle Kleen, Joel Maschman, Larry Schultz, David Mussman, Doyle Christensen, Leslie Brandt. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Smith, Fred Maschman, Rolland Franzen, Thorkild Kastrup, Kenneth Arnold, George Kniep, Sr. "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond The Sunset" were sang by Diane Collins and Ivan Schafer was the organist. Burial was in the Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. The Klawitter Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of arrangements.
