Mrs. Kate R. Backus, 74 years old, a resident of Indianapolis for a number of years died at the Methodist hospital after an illness of almost three years. She was born in Bavaria and came to Indianapolis when she was about 6 years old. She was the widow of the late William Backus who was owner of a planing mill at Laporte, Ind., and who died about thirty-five years ago. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Anna J. Comstock of Coronado Beach, Cal., and Mrs. Osie B. Davis of Omaha, Neb.
