Bennett was born in Indianapolis, lived for a few years in Detroit as a toddler (perhaps related to World War 11, as her father was in the service), and then moved to Albuquerque about 1951, where her father was with the atomic division at Sandia Air Force Base. She soon became an honor student in High School, and was a Freshman at the University of New Mexico when she died tragically in a car accident, along with two other people.
