THE DETROIT NEWS-HERALD, 17 Nov 1949 from microfilm in Clarksville Library: 'TRAIN-AUTO CRASH KILLS 3 AT PETTY SUNDAY Paris News -- Three Lamar County Negroes lost their lives and another was injured in a grade-crossing accident in Petty Sunday morning. Killed when the eastbound Texas and Pacific passenger Train No. 32 collided with a Model A Ford at 10:15 were Robert Hall, about 50, and his mother, Larcena Collins Hall, about 70, and Ernest Adams, about 59. Injured was Mary Helen Jimerson, 12. Adams lived in Petty, while the Halls and the Jimerson girl lived in the Noble Community. Deputy Upton Nelson and highway patrolmen Ross Kemp and Bob Ashmore investigated the accident, which occurred at the crossing near the station in Petty. Witnesses said the driver, Robert Hall, apparently did not see the train approaching. The car, headed south, was knocked about 50 feet and bodies of the occupants scattered on the ground. The three persons fatally injured were killed instantly. The Jimerson girl was brought to Lamar Hospital where her condition Monday was not considered serious. She was being treated for lacerations and bruises. Witnesses said Hall had stopped the car about a hundred yards up the road and that a passenger, Richard Taylor, 22, got out of the automobile. Adams it was said got in the car when Taylor got out and drove 100 yards to his death. Officers said engineer on the train was Ed Roach and conductor was L. W. Dollar. It was on its regular run from Fort Worth to Texarkana.'
