George M. Bernhart, 81, of 408 Warren St. died at 6:25 a.m. Thursday, June 10, 1993, at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
Born Nov. 5, 1911, in Liberal, Kan., to Carl and Iva Nisley Bernhart, he married Dora Myers on Aug. 30, 1935, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Wright of Avon and Mrs. Terry (Sharron) Thomas of Abingdon; two brothers, Roy of West Burlington, Iowa, and Paul of Avon; three sisters, Doris Mason and June Bernhart, both of Tulsa, Okla., and Margaret Siefken of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. One son, three brothers, one sister and one great-granddaughter preceded him in death.
He worked for Avon Motor Sales for 35 years.
He was caretaker of Avon Cemetery for 20 years and a volunteer fireman for Avon Fire Department for 30 years.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corman Memorial Home. The Rev. James Vancil will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the memorial home. Burial will be in Avon Cemetery.
