Born May 8, 1921, he was a son of the late Lucian E. and Pearl Ann Warner Clare. A 1940 graduate of Lewistown High School, he later served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ticonderoga during the Pacific Theatre of World War II. He was employed as a dairy man for Royal Dairy and Bupps Dairy for 20 years and later retired in 1983 from Calgon, and Merck and Co. following 25 years of service in the sales department.
Mr. Clare was a member of the Penn Twp. Lion's Club, the Harold H. Bair American Legion Post #14 and the Hanover Elks Lodge #763, and was active with the Big T Veteran's Association, a group of servicemen who served on the USS Ticonderoga and was also active in coaching Little League baseball. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed football, baseball and especially fishing. He also enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia A. Troutman and her husband, Paul, of Hanover; a daughter-in-law, Sue Clare of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Robert P. Troutman and his wife, Paula Sue, of York and Tammy, Jenny, Kim and Shannon Clare; three great-granddaughters, Nicole, Emily and Ashley; three sisters, Elaine Miller of Virginia Beach, VA, Gerry Thompson of Richmond, VA and Marjorie Cook of Denver, CO; two brothers, Richard Rager of Front Royal, VA and Lucian Clare of Virginia Beach, VA; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Margaret Lafevre of Hanover. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Clare and a brother, William Clare.
